Second Star Guide

About this Traverse City guide

Traverse City combines a compact downtown, Grand Traverse Bay, two wine peninsulas, orchard country, regional trails, and the road toward Sleeping Bear Dunes. A two-night visit usually has room for the city plus one peninsula or lakeshore route.

The guide separates the compact city from the larger regional drives. Clinch Park, the Boardman River, Front Street, and the Grand Traverse Commons belong to the city day. Old Mission, Leelanau, and Sleeping Bear each lead outward on a different road.

Official trail, park, winery, airport, road, and visitor resources sit beside the relevant recommendations. Lodging and restaurant listings identify their setting and role so a waterfront resort, downtown room, quick lunch, and reserved dinner are not presented as interchangeable.
